PATIENT SERVICES:
The Southern Illinois Hospitalist Group provides inpatient care at Memorial Hospital for a majority of patients who are admitted via the Emergency Department, but do not have a primary care physician on staff. COMMUNICATION:
As part of the Southern Illinois Hospitalist Group, it is important to communicate not only within our own group but to our referring physicians. Admission and discharge summaries are sent to our referring physicians no later than 72 hours. A follow-up phone call by the allied health staff helps our patients to ease the transition from hospital discharge to follow up visit. We have integrated Ingenious Med, a web based billing software specializing in hospital medicine billing. This technology also improves our sign out communication. Currently Memorial is in the process of adopting an electronic medical record system with an anticipated completion date of 2012. Communication between members of the group is through a privacy protected smart phone platform.
The Southern Illinois Hospitalist Group is actively involved with the Society of Hospital Medicine, a national organization that follows the growth of Hospital Medicine. As members of SHM, we have founded the Society of Hospital Medicine Southern Illinois Chapter. At this point, we are working towards obtaining CME credits for attendees of our chapter meetings.
